5 months old

July was a very busy month for Cate. We went to Gatlinburg with the Spurlin Family. Our 1st family trip. She was a perfect angel on the drive to and from. While we were there she learned how to push herself backwards while laying on her back. And she got to spend time with her cousins Bryce & Caleb. And she met her 2nd cousin Brayden who is 2. Next year those two will be to little heartbreakers getting what they want.

Each and every day it is a new trick! She can now sit up for a while by herself. She has mastered rolling from her back to front, but can't figure out how to get back over. Still no teeth, but I believe they will be in soon! Two weeks ago we introduced rice cereal to Cate. She loves it! Her favorite place to eat it is outside where she can watch everything. Cate is also a talker!! She has started talking to everyone these days. She definitely makes sure everyone that walks past her takes note.

Wednesday July 29th. 6 months

We go for our six month check up tomorrow which is good as she is fighting a cold right now. I will start posting at the end of every month. In August Cate will start going to the University of Louisville's Early Learning Center. I am sure this is going to be a learing experience for all three of us! We will keep you posted!

Growing like a weed

I am sorry it has been so long since we posted. Cate is now 19 weeks 4 days old. I know I say this every time I post, but she is such a joy! She smiles for everyone. The only fusses are when she is hungry or tired. She never stops moving. Mark keeps saying she will run a marathon before her feet hit the ground. She is our little wiggle worm!! She loves to eat her hands these days. She is trying to grab her feet. I figure she will have that down by the end of this week. Last week Grammy taught her to squeal!! That has been fun to hear.

On June 7 we had her baptised at Our Lady of Perpetual Help in New Albany. She was a perfect angel during the ceremony. Her Aunt Rosie and Uncle Jeremy are her Godparents. I think Mark & I realized just how lucky we are and how much everyone loves Baby Cate that day.

I believe Cate has now met every Great Aunt and Uncle. Her Great Aunt Nellie came in town from NC this weekend. It was so good to see her and of course Cate had to have her picture taken with her. When the cameras come out Cate just stops and looks.

Here are a few new pictures of Cate. Mommy has returned to work. It hasn't been easy. Thank goodness for Grammy, Grandma, & Jennifer (our neighbor). They have all watched Cate and listened to Mommy cry on a daily basis. Daddy just shakes his head...he doesn't know what to do.

Cate is 3 months old now and enjoying the new discovery of her hands and voice. When I was little my Uncle Calvin called me chatty cathy or motor mouth...with the amount of talking Cate is doing I think she is going to follow in my footsteps. Mark can really get her talking! She is definitely a Daddy's Girl!!

12 weeks old

Easter and Play Dates

Cate's First Fishin' Cap.

Now she needs her pink diamond encrusted fishin' pole and she is ready to go fishin' with Papa.

Cate's 1st Easter Basket.

1st Play Date with Sinclaire. They are 3 weeks apart.

Cate is 10.5 weeks old now. She is sleeping through the night and on a schedule during the day. Now that the weather is turning nicer we go some where almost every day. Last week Cate had her first play date with Sinclaire. They both slept through most of it! I am sure that will change in the near future. Last week we went to the park, but Cate slept through it too. She is growing up so quickly. We have graduated to size 1 diapers at night. She is leaving the newborn diapers behind. Each day it is a new sound. This week she can't take her eyes off her daddy. Easter was a lot of fun, but she was exhausted at the end of the day. Next big adventure is staying with the babysitter when mommy goes back to work on April 23. Stay tuned for more...

1st Easter Picture 8 week 7days

Smiles that melt your heart 8weeks 5 days

Cate discovered herself in the mirror 7week 7days

WOW 8 weeks has arrived. We can't believe it! Cate went to the doctor this week. She weighs 9 lbs 2 oz (15th percentile) and is 22.75 inches long (60th percentile). Our long lean baby! She also received three shots and an oral vaccine. She did okay..no fever or fussiness. Grammy has been on Spring Break this week so we have spent lots of time with her. Each day Cate does something to melt our heart (especially her daddy's heart). She has him right where she wants him & if I have to guess it is going to continue for many years. :)

6 weeks old

6 weeks old. Look how much I have grown. Soon I'll be bigger then this dog!

Wow how time flies!! Our Baby Cate is now 6 weeks old. I believe she has now met all of her Great Aunts and most of her Great Uncles. She is growing so quickly. I took her to the doctor this week due to excessive fussiness. She now weighs 8 lbs 12 oz (with clothes & a wet diaper). The doctor said her fussiness is most likely due to the meal I ate on Sunday mixed in with a little colic.

The past two weeks Cate has discovered the ceiling fan in our bedroom. She has also lost her umbillical cord. Every day is something new. She is fighting naps during the day, but for the most part sleeping about 4 hours straight at night. We are enjoying each and every day with her. When she is old enough to read this I hope she knows just how much we love her. I can't even remember what life was like without her.

4 weeks old

Can you believe it has been four weeks already? Even with a couple of sleepless nights I wouldn't trade this. Cate now weighs 7lbs 15 oz and is 22 inches long. She is in the 25th percentile for weight and 75th percentile for length. This week she started to wear her 0-3 month clothes, but some of the sleepers are too short when she stretches out. Daddy and Cate spent their 1st few hours alone on Tuesday night. Mommy had a meeting and was very concerned that Cate would be her typical fussy self while away, but she wasn't. Maybe I should leave more often as we even had a great night sleep. It has been a wonderful 4 weeks. We wish time would slow down.

Lunch w/Aunt Mary Ann.

My new swing Mommy bought so I can go to work with her.
I am starting to like this a little more.

So Much Fun

3 weeks old...look at how big my foot is getting

What a great time we are having. They always say time flies when you are having fun. We believe it! Cate is now three weeks old. She is an eating machine! This week Cate had her 1st Valentine's Day & helped Mommy celebrate her best birthday ever. We have introduced her to shopping at Toys R' Us and Target this week. She did extremely well on each trip. She also made her first trip to Mommy's office. Mommy got a little work completed, but I don't think Brian & Carrie were able to get much done.

1st time in bouncy seat.

Cate has also found her voice this week. She has started grunting & making noises. Overall, she is a great baby. Although she isn't a fan of 6P-11P as this is her fussy time & she really wants to eat. We are trying new ways to calm her & giving her a bath seems to work (today)!

Relaxing after bath time. Mommy turns the heater up really high in the bathroom & it is very relaxing.

She is looking forward to meeting the Sellers & Lang Family next week at the baby shower. Maybe by next week she will be in her 0-3 month clothes. She did graduate out of premie diapers this week!

Meeting the Family

Great Grandma Spurlin & Cate

This week Cate was able to meet several family members. Saturday was our first outing. She went to McAlister's for lunch. This is daddy's favorite place to eat lunch. Don't worry she didn't have any sweet tea! Then we went to introduce her to Great Grandma & Grandpa Spurlin. They couldn't believe the length of her legs. While there Great Aunt Carrie made a visit too.

Cousin Wyatt & Cate. He is 5 months older

Sunday was a really big day to visit. We should have charged $5 per person and started working on her college fund. Great Uncle Calvin & Aunt Ullene came by, then Grammie & Papa with Great Uncle Jeff & Aunt Heidi. Then Uncle Jason & Aunt Leslie brought cousin Wyatt for a visit. It won't be long before the two of them cause trouble in Starlight. Papa is already talking of fishing with both of them. Cate says she needs a pink diamond encrusted fishing pole. After they left we went for our first walk as a family. This brought out several neighbors. Later in the evening The Perez & Fields Familes visited. These are our neighbors so I went ahead & apologized for the years to come when I'll be yelling, "Catherine Ann Get Back In Here."

Father's Love

This week we also had our first family photos taken. The picture above is a teaser the best is yet to come. The photographer, Julie Brock of http://www.athomephotography.net/ took these at our house. This one was taken in our kitchen. We couldn't get Cate to curl up in a ball like most of the babies you see. She always wanted her leg stuck out. We have nicknamed those legs "chicken legs." Maybe one day they will be super model or ballerina legs. If you would like to see the other proofs please let me know,

Cate had her two week check-up and now weighs 7lb 2 oz. We are above birth weight and eating like a champ. You can definitely see it in her cheeks. Yesterday Cate took her first ride to Starlight to visit Great Grandpa Lang. She is one lucky little girl to have four great grandparents who love her so much. While there Great Uncle Gary stopped by. So as you see it was a big week of meeting the family. There are so many more to meet and Cate can't wait.

Happy 1 week Birthday

Well we made it a week. My how time flies!! It has been a week of firsts. First trip home in the car, first bath by dad, first night to keep mom up, and first blow out of diapers. Which she is pretty good at the last one. Dad says she definitely gets that from Mommy's Sellers side of the family. Oh! And don't forget the first peeing on dad! That was our favorite!

For the most part Cate is sleeping for 3 hrs and eating. Her favorite awake time is from 12-2A. We are taking volunteers to work this shift!! We also had our first doctor's appointment Wednesday and she is up to 6 lbs 11 oz. Daddy has been helping keep the house clean and doing laundry. Who knew a baby so small could create so much laundry.

Every day we both fall more in love with Cate! She is definitely a blessing in our life and now we can't imagine life without her. What did we do with all of our spare time before? Life must have been pretty boring in the Schaffer House!

Coming Home

Today we arrived home around 12:30. I always said, "I wouldn't be the mom to ride in the backseat home." Well, some things change. I was always told you are a perfect parent until you have kids of your own. I believe this is true!! Mark says, "There is a new boss in town." Our day has been very quiet. Grammie & Mark did laundry while Papa cleared the driveway (with a little help from Brady across the street). Grammie made a wonderful dinner! We are adjusting to life with a newborn. We had to find clothes to fit baby Cate as everything is 0-3 months and she can't find her hands in them. Luckly, Great Aunt Anita bought her some wonderful newborn clothes at Dillard's that fit perfectly. We are loving life and can't imagine anything different.

Welcome Baby Cate

On Thursday morning January 29, 2009 Catherine "Cate" Ann Schaffer quietly made her way into the world. Just as soon as the doctor pulled her out she promptly peeded all over the doctor. The doctors and delivery team chuckled as they thought this was a very funny way to enter into the world. All the nurses loved her long feet and skinny toes and very long back ond legs, This is an attritubute she picks up from her mother. Cate weighed in at 7.0 Lbs and 20 inches long.

Her mommy & daddy had so convinced themselves that this baby was going to be a boy while most everyone around them believed it would be a girl. Lisa was so confident with her motherly instinct that she decided to only pack clothes for a boy and left behind all the pink clothes at home. She knew all along that she would be returning all of thoes cute and frilly pink outfits.

Her daddy was a little stunned that it was girl. The more he held her the more he loved her. Mark had not mentaly prepared himself for a girl, however the idea is rapidly growing on him. Cate has without a doubt wone over her fathers heart.

At 10:25 she met her two wonderful sets of grandparents...Papsi Schaffer, Grandma Schaffer, Papa Sellers, & Grammie Sellers were all very happy to see their newest bundle of joy.
